Meet the founder

Lina Kobets, founder of Elegant Stitch

Elegant Stitch is owned and operated by Lina Kobets, who works with clients from the shop in Nicholasville, Kentucky. After settling in Nicholasville, Lina opened Elegant Stitch to provide local alterations, tailoring, and garment repair.

The shop works on one garment at a time, and you discuss your garment directly with the tailor who does the work — from the first fitting conversation to the final check of the finished piece. There is no middle step between what you describe and what happens at the sewing machine.

How the shop works

The Elegant Stitch approach to alterations and tailoring

One tailor, one standard

Fit, finish, and comfort are judged by the same person at every step, so nothing is lost between a fitting conversation and the workroom. The person who listens to how you want the garment to feel is the person who marks it, cuts it, sews it, and checks it.

Every garment inspected first

Construction, fabric, and condition are reviewed in person before scope and price are confirmed, so the plan matches the garment you actually own — not an idealized version of it. Lining, enclosed seams, beadwork, previous alterations, and fabric wear all affect what is practical.

A Nicholasville shop for local fittings

Elegant Stitch welcomes clients from Nicholasville and Lexington at one studio at 208 Edgewood Drive, Nicholasville, KY 40356. The shop is open Monday–Friday, 11:00 AM–5:00 PM, and closed on weekends.

Transparency and process

How a fitting and alteration works at Elegant Stitch

Every alteration at Elegant Stitch follows the same basic sequence. The details change depending on the garment — a simple hem on unlined pants is different from reshaping the bodice of a lined, beaded gown — but the process is consistent:

1. Consultation and garment review

Bring the garment to the shop at 208 Edgewood Drive, Nicholasville, KY 40356. The tailor inspects the construction — lining, seams, zippers, fabric condition, beadwork, previous alterations — and discusses the change you want. For straightforward work like a zipper replacement or a simple hem, the shop can often provide a firm quote and timeline during this first visit.

2. Fitting and marking

You try on the garment with the shoes and foundation pieces you plan to wear. The tailor marks or pins the changes while you discuss how the garment should feel, move, and fall. Reference photos help communicate the silhouette or length you have in mind. For complex garments, this step may repeat across multiple appointments.

3. Garment work

The alteration is performed at the shop — seams are opened, fabric is reshaped, and the garment is reconstructed to match the fitting plan. For custom tailoring, this stage includes pattern-making, fabric cutting, and full construction from measurements taken during consultation.

4. Final check and pickup

The completed garment is inspected for comfort, proportion, movement, and the agreed alteration. You try it on, confirm the result, and take it home. If an additional adjustment is needed, it is discussed and scheduled at this point.

From the shop to you

What to expect when you choose Elegant Stitch

Clear communication

The shop tells you what is practical, how long the work will take, and when to expect the next checkpoint — another fitting or the completed garment. If a repair is unlikely to hold or a requested change would compromise the garment's structure, the tailor explains why before work begins.

Honest scope and pricing

Every alteration estimate starts with the garment, not a flat rate list. Labor drives the price, and the shop explains which construction details affect the work involved. A photo or message can begin the conversation, but final scope and price are confirmed after an in-person garment inspection.

Local community, personal service

Elegant Stitch is part of the Nicholasville community. The shop serves neighbors, wedding parties, professionals, and anyone who wants their clothing to fit as intended. Each garment receives individual attention because each client's body, garment, and expectations are different.
